Still Life: Vintage Threads

Lately I’m getting more and more obsessed with all things vintage. I’ve been collecting some stuff off of Ebay I’ve got to get some photos of. But this bin of yummyness was found at a flea market last summer. I thought the yarn colors and the old bobbins were just gorgeous.

Although I’ve used Photoshop for over 14 years now (WHAT?!?!?!), I only recently got my hands on a version in the CS range. For the last 8 years I’ve been tinkering with my Photoshop 7. So I’m going to start sharing what I’ve done to process my photos, but bear with me as I get up to speed over 5 upgrades!

I first processed this using the Photoshop plugin and HDR impostor ReDynaMix. I grabbed it for something like $20 and it was totally worth it, best money I’ve ever spent on a piece of software. Then I used the absolutely scrumptious “Ghost Glow” action in this totally free set of 50 Photoshop actions you can download from Manicho on deviantART. Lastly I simply created a feathered selection of the border and darkened it with a Levels adjustment layer.
